Santorini: The Classic Romance Destination

Santorini has long been the go-to island for couples, and for good reason. The iconic cliffside views, dramatic sunsets, and abundance of luxury hotels make it one of the dreamiest places in Greece.
What makes it romantic:
- Golden-hour views in Oia, the iconic cliffside village of Santorini
- Candlelit dinners with a caldera backdrop
- Private catamaran tours to nearby volcanic islands
- Wine tastings at charming local vineyards
Where to stay:
- Canaves Oia Suites: Perfect if you want elegant simplicity close to Oia. Just 18 suites with whitewashed interiors and private verandas overlooking the caldera, built from 17th-century wine caves.
- Charisma Suites: This dreamy hotel is perfect for those looking to be at the heart of Oia without sacrificing privacy or sea views. The sunsets here are not to be missed.
- Grace Hotel: One of the most luxurious hotels on the island, with an infinity pool truly made for sunset dips. The best choice if you want to be removed from the crowds.
- Mystique Hotel: Understated luxury at this carved-into-the-cliff retreat with 42 suites and villas, with private infinity pools and caldera views. This would be my dream couple spot!
Folegandros: Santorini’s Serene Neighbor

Folegandros is a peaceful alternative that is easily accessible from Santorini by ferry. It’s less polished but incredibly romantic, with its slow pace, breathtaking cliffside villages, and hidden beaches you might just have to yourselves.
Why it’s perfect for couples:
- Almost empty beaches in shoulder season
- Romantic boat trips to otherwise unreachable coves
- An ultra-charming small main town (Chora) with cozy tavernas
- Sunset views that rival the most popular Greek Islands
Where to stay:
- Blue Sand Hotel: One of my personal favorite stays ever. This boutique hotel is simple, stunning, and ideal for couples who want views and easy beach access.
- Anemi Hotel: This little family-run boutique hotel is perched on the edge of the cliff in Chora, offering a charmingly authentic stay just steps from Folegandros’ best restaurants.
- Gundari: An ultra-luxury retreat set back on 80 acres of Folegandros’ rugged cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea. Perfect for couples looking to splurge a little extra.
Milos: Dramatic Landscapes Meet Boutique Luxury

Swimmers at the iconic moonscapes of Sarakiniko Beach.
If your idea of romance includes stunning beaches and adventure, Milos might be the one. The island is filled with surreal landscapes, colorful fishing villages, and enough towns and swimming holes to keep you busy for a week.
What makes it special:
- The unique beaches, particularly moon-like Sarakiniko Beach
- Sunset sailing tours past cliffs and caves
- Swimming spots you can only reach by boat
- Great food options and a handful of charming villages
Where to stay:
- Skinopi Lodge: Just steps away from Skinopi Beach, this eco-luxury retreat is a top pick for couples that want to reset in tranquility. Note: the property fills up quickly, so be sure to book early.
- Milos Breeze: Known for its incredible panoramic sea views, this hotel balances beach time with village life: tavernas, bars, and the waterfront are all walkable, offering relaxation without being isolated.
- White Coast Pool Suites: For those looking to splurge on something extra-special, this adults-only luxury resort offers private infinity pools overlooking the landscape of Sarakiniko and top Michelin-starred dining. A true treat.
Naxos: Laid-Back Beaches and Exploration

Just a short hop from Milos, Naxos adds wide laid-back beaches, lush greenery, and charming villages to the mix. It’s less flashy but incredibly welcoming, ideal for couples who love slow travel and road trips to quieter areas.
Best experiences for two:
- Long beach days on sandy Agios Prokopios, a popular part of the island
- Day trips into the mountains for lunch in sleepy villages
- Sunset views from the main town and ancient Temple of Apollo
Where to stay:
- Ammothines Cycladic Suites: Set right on the coastline, just steps from the crystal-clear turquoise waters of Plaka beach with golden sand dunes practically touching the property. Peaceful nature meets curated luxury.
- Villa Marandi Luxury Suites: Balanced between easy island access and beach-front calm. Located on a quiet beach in Stelida, just 5 km from Naxos town, with sea-inspired décor and views of the iconic Portara temple from some suites.
- Naxian Collection & Naxian on the Beach: Elegant luxury meets authentic island living. The “Collection” is great for families, while “On the Beach” offers the perfect beachfront hideaway for couples only, with just 10 suites on the sandy shores of Plaka Beach.
Patmos: Trendy Under-the-Radar Romance

Patmos is one of those islands that still flies under the radar but has a quietly cool scene, especially in Chora. It’s not the best for beach lovers (most have small pebbles rather than sand), but the vibes, food and views make up for it.
Couples love it for:
- Lazy, relaxed seaside tavernas steps away from a dip
- Sunset views and picturesque squares from a hilltop Chora
- Spiritual serenity at the Monastery of St. John
- Boutique stays and chic restaurants hidden in alleyways
Where to stay:
- Patmos Aktis: Feels like staying in a traditional Patmian mansion, with local artisan touches across the property and harbor views. Owners Marietta and Fredy have thought of everything here.
- The Petra: Understated luxury at its finest. The Petra is a family-run boutique hotel with just 11 rooms on quiet Patmos, featuring contemporary Greek art and breakfast overlooking the fishing village bay.
- Eirini Luxury Villas: Luxury stone-built villas with direct beachfront access and sweeping sea views, where Christos and his family make you feel completely at home.
Paros & Antiparos: The Perfect Romantic Pairing

Paros has something for everyone: sandy beaches, charming towns, and a growing food scene. Pair it with Antiparos, a short 10 minute ferry ride away, for a more low-key romantic escape.
Why they’re great for couples:
- Naoussa town’s lively nights and boutique shopping
- Plenty of charming villages and sandy beaches to explore
- Antiparos’ peaceful beaches and seaside tavernas
- Easy access between the two for day trips
Where to stay:
- Calme Boutique Hotel (Paros): One of the most architecturally striking places on the island, designed by renowned architect Iossif Alighizakis as a showcase of modern Cycladic design.
- The Rooster (Antiparos): Secluded wellness retreat that embraces the off-grid vibe. Think linen robes, open-air bathrooms, and mornings meant for lingering.

Practical Tips for Island Hopping Couples
When to visit: Shoulder season (May-June, September-early October) offers the best mix of warm weather and fewer crowds. For tips based on the time of year, check out our guide breaking down the best Greek Islands to visit by season.
Getting around: Ferries between major islands are frequent, but book ferry tickets in advance and pick days where ferries run between the islands (many islands don’t have daily ferries). Private transfers and flights are an option, but can get quite expensive.
Packing tips: Bring layers for breezy evenings, and good shoes for cobblestone streets. A light beach tote and reef-safe sunscreen are musts.
Reservations: Book hotels and dinner spots early, especially for popular islands like Santorini and Milos.
