FAQ

Leica Q2 Taking A Photo in Amsterdam Netherlands
Travel Blogger Selena Taylor at Top of the Rock in New York City

Do you travel full-time or are you based somewhere?

Currently, I split my time between New York City and Amsterdam. I grew up in Northern California and lived there until 2016, when I moved abroad to Amsterdam (also when I started Find Us Lost). I typically spend the majority of the year traveling. Here’s a post featuring the timeline of how I moved abroad and got started blogging.

How can you afford to travel so much?

Prior to working full-time as a travel blogger, I saved up money for years to be able to travel and move abroad. Before relocating to Amsterdam, my husband and I went on a 3-month road trip through Europe, which is when I started continuously taking photos and blogging. Now my trips are either sponsored by a brand or tourism board (in which I shoot content or promote a destination), or self-funded.

What camera do you use to shoot photos?

I use a Canon 5D and Leica Q2 to shoot photos. Lately I’ve been shooting more with my Leica camera, as it’s lightweight and easy to pack. Here is an up-to-date list of the camera gear I use for travel photography. You can also visit the photography section of my blog for more editing and photography tips and recommendations.

How do you edit your photos?

I edit all of my photos in Adobe Lightroom. You can purchase the exact Lightroom presets I use to edit my photos through my online shop. If you’re just starting out with photo editing, this guide breaks down everything you need to get started.

Is blogging your full-time job?

Yes, I’m a full-time blogger and photographer. In addition I also take on jobs to create content (both photo and video) for hotels, tourism boards, and lifestyle brands.

How do you make money from blogging?

I make an income through my blog from affiliate links and sponsored content, as well as from selling my photography presets. From time to time you may see a ‘sponsored by’ note on my blog posts, indicating paid-for content. I sometimes make a small commission from my affiliate links if you click and/or make a purchase through them (at no cost to you, so thank you!). In addition to my blog, I make an income from content creation and photography shoots.
