Do you travel full-time or are you based somewhere?
We’re based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. We left Los Angeles in 2016 to move abroad and pursue a more travel-centric lifestyle. Though we have a home base, we usually travel the majority of the year. Check out this post for a more detailed timeline of our move and how we got to where we are now.
What visa do you have that allows you to live in Europe?
My father is Dutch so I have citizenship in the U.S. and Europe. Because I have a Dutch passport, Jacob is able to live in Amsterdam with me through a partner visa. We weren’t married when we first moved to Amsterdam, so originally we weren’t sure this would be an option (as it turns out, you don’t have to be married to obtain this visa). The other route Jacob and I considered was to have him apply through an entrepreneur visa, which requires him to register a business in The Netherlands. If you’re interested in more options for expats in The Netherlands, I recommend checking out the IND website.
How can you afford to travel so much?
Prior to working full-time as a travel blogger, I saved up money for years to be able to travel and move abroad. Before Jacob and I moved to Amsterdam we took a 3-month road trip through The Balkans. That’s also when we started our Instagram and how we came to launch ourselves into a career in travel (and no, it wasn’t planned!).
What gear do you use to shoot photos?
We use a Sony a7RII to shoot the majority of our photos. The lenses we use the most are our Sony 35mm f/1.4 and Sony 25mm f/2. This camera is small and produces high quality photos and video, so it’s the most convenient for when we travel. Here’s a full list of all the gear we own:
- Canon 6D Camera
- Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 II Lens
- Canon EF 24mm f/1.4 Lens
- Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 II Lens
- Sony a7RII Camera
- Sony Distagon 35mm f/1.4 Lens
- Sony Batis 25mm f/2 Lens
- Rolleiflex 2.8gx
- Hasselblad 503cw
- Hasselblad X-Pan
- Leica M7

How do you edit your photos?
We edit all of our photos in Adobe Lightroom. If you’re just starting out with photography, I highly recommend this program if you’re looking to take your photos to the next level.
Is blogging your full-time job?
Yes! Although it’s difficult to call myself a ‘travel blogger’. In reality, Jacob and I wear so many hats. In addition to blogging, we take on jobs to create content (photo and video) for hotels, tourism boards, lifestyle and fashion brands, and much more.
How do you make money from blogging?
We make money from affiliate links and sponsored content on our blog. This means that sometimes you’ll see me disclose a ‘sponsored by’ note on my blog posts, and sometimes we will make a small commission if you click and/or make a purchase through certain links. We only work with brands we love and believe in — this blog started as our passion project and it will always stay that way! We’re selective about what we share and I truly don’t think we’d have this job if we didn’t turn down a lot of the paid opportunities we get.
