Hallstatt, Austria – Seehotel Gruner Baum
A beautiful lakeside hotel with jaw-dropping views of Hallstatt town, set amongst a picture perfect Austrian landscape.
Last month I took my first trip to the postcard perfect town of Hallstatt, Austria. I’d been wanting to visit for a couple years now ever since seeing a photo of its idyllic wood houses perched on the water. A girl’s trip with one of my closest friends was the perfect occasion! Choosing a hotel with a view was our top priority when choosing where to stay in Hallstatt. Seehotel Gruner Baum ended up being the perfect Hallstatt hotel for the two of us.
Seehotel Gruner Baum is a historic Austrian hotel in the center of Hallstatt’s small town square. Picture perfect houses and restaurants are right at your doorstep. We checked into Seehotel Gruner Baum in the afternoon, soaking in the snow-covered rooftops and clear blue skies as we walked into town (no outside cars are allowed). The hotel itself is well kept; staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating.
The main draw of this classic hotel are the individual balconies. While some face Hallstatt lake, we opted for a town square view. Only nine rooms have balconies that look to the town square, each with classical Austrian woodwork. From the left corner of our balcony we could see the mist over the mountains; on the right, Hallstatt’s famous church. The restaurant downstairs looks out upon crystal clear water. Breakfast, lunch and dinner here were delicious – honeycomb slabs straight from local bee farmers, fresh juice and locally baked bread each morning.
