An abandoned house on Ring Road, Iceland
It’s been an amazing few months of traveling, but now that our road trip has come to an end and we’re settling into our home base in Amsterdam, we can’t help but reminisce on our favorite destinations to visit. One – because we are nostalgic about the time we spent there, and two – because they’re so good, we want to go back to all of them!
Whether we visited these countries recently or in the past couple of years, they all our worthy of our obsession. So, check out our top travel destinations to visit in 2016 and get your passport ready for a new stamp:
1. Greece

Meteora, Greece

Oia, Santorini, Greek Islands

Agios Nikolaos, Santorini, Greek Islands
Though Greece’s struggling economy has been in the spotlight, we found that no matter where we went, each town still had the positive energy that Greek culture thrives on. Greece has an amazing variety of landscapes — and don’t even get us started on the food. Whether the clear blue water of the Greek Islands or the stunning rock formations in Meteora are calling you, make sure you plan a long vacation here!
2. Iceland

Hofsjökull Glacier

Ring Road

A Natural Hot Springs Near Stykkishólmur
Our trip to Iceland remains one of our favorite vacations of all time. The whole country feels like it’s straight out of a storybook. We travelled the ring road in Iceland and it was nearly impossible to drive 10 minutes without seeing something so stunning, we’d have to pull our car over. If you add Iceland to your bucket list, and we hope you do, make sure you have a great camera setup!
3. France

A blissful backyard in the Rhône-Alpes

Breakfast in Southern France

Annecy Lake
Ah, France. Between Paris, the Loire Valley, and the French Riviera…how could you go wrong? Grab a language guide and get practicing, because you’ll want to see and taste everything when you get there. Take a tip from us and make sure you divide your trip between the bigger cities and the smaller towns. We can’t get enough of this country, and you won’t be able to either.
4. Slovenia

Predjama Castle

Boats on Bled Lake

Bled Lake Church and Castle
Slovenia was our most unexpected favorite during our road trip. The moment we entered the country, we were blown away by the scenery. Rolling green hills dotted with quaint villages, beautiful lakes and rivers, delicious fresh food, and a friendly community were just a few of the things that make this country great. We recommend adding Slovenia to the top of your bucket list!

5. Kauai

Delicious Shave Ice & The Nā Pali Coast

North Shore Kauai

Ke’e Beach at Sunset
All the islands of Hawaii are worth visiting, but Kauai remains our favorite. There’s something for everyone: beautiful sandy beaches, lush tropical scenery, and countless hiking trails. Oh, and poke for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Yes, please.
