I’ve been so eager to share this post since we visited the Dominican Republic in May! We were invited over to create videos for Barceló Stories, a campaign for Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort in Punta Cana, with a group of 10 other travel bloggers.
When we first arrived on the island we were really looking forward to heading straight to the beach, but the day we landed there was a monsoon and the island partially flooded! It was a crazy first 24 hours as we all plotted how to get video shots with the downpour (should we pretend it’s sunny and just bring some margaritas to the beach anyway?!). Luckily when we woke up the next morning the sky was a clear blue. Quite the introduction to island life!
The rest of the week in Punta Cana was so busy, and so much fun. Our days started with sunrises on the beach and ended with feasts at the hotel, with plenty of activities in between. Our favorite day of the trip was when we explored some of the best natural wonders of the island, including the Hoyo Azul and Isla Saona. I highly recommend visiting both if you go to the Dominican Republic.
For the Hoyo Azul, go early to avoid the crowds. And don’t forget to bring a swimsuit – jumping in is so refreshing! We combined a morning visit here with a boat trip to Saona Island afterward to swim in some of the clearest water around. I felt like I was swimming in a pool.
The campaign for Barceló Stories is now live 🙂 so you can check out our videos below, along with the other videos of travel bloggers we traveled with to the Dominican Republic.

Thanks for sharing your travel experience about Punta Cana and I hope this was your memorable trip. Wow, what a fantastic journey! Your photos are the most beautiful and I hope you enjoyed a lot there. Also, I had awesome memorable days with this Saona Island which I went by FunTrip2 few months ago. More interestingly, this makes a good resource to bring revenue to the tourism industry of Punta Cana by attracting thousands of tourists to this popular destination. I am an eyewitness of each & every beauty of Punta Cana. Thanks to Pepe Adventure for giving me such a lovely joy to my life.

So beautiful! Using your recommendations! I actually just booked a trip to go stay at Barcelo. I know you say to visit the cave early but was wondering how early did you actually go?

Wonderful photos! Wondering what tour company you used to book the hoyo azul/soana trip? Thank you!
Selena Says
Post authorThanks Amanda. 🙂 We were there for a job and the company arranged it for us, so unfortunately I don’t have a tour company to recommend. You could definitely visit without a tour company though, or even arrange transport to Hoyo Azul through your hotel (especially if you want to avoid big crowds of people). The earlier you go the better. Good luck!
