There are many reasons why Amsterdam is my favorite city in the world, and why we chose to make it our home base this past summer.
For starters — my father is Dutch, so The Netherlands is one of the first European countries I visited as a child. It leaves a lasting impression: the quaint cobblestone streets, smells of freshly-baked bread in the morning, and of course the unmistakable canals which run through virtually every town and are quintessentially Dutch (sorry, Venice!).
Experiencing Amsterdam by boat is something I suggest for anyone visiting the city. On this particular outing, we missed the warmer weather but didn’t mind bundling up and bringing some drinks along to cruise through the canals. If you’re looking to rent a boat in the city, I recommend checking out Sloepdelen.
There’s so much to see in Amsterdam, so if you are planning a trip I suggest checking out our Complete Amsterdam Travel Guide.

Amsterdam strikes me as being so incredible romantic. I adore the photo of you standing at the edge of the boat, looking out over the canal! Ooh, my favourite city to see by boat… would have to be Venice. Cliche, but true!
