There are many reasons why Amsterdam is my favorite city in the world, and why we chose to make it our home base this past summer.

For starters — my father is Dutch, so The Netherlands is one of the first European countries I visited as a child. It leaves a lasting impression: the quaint cobblestone streets, smells of freshly-baked bread in the morning, and of course the unmistakable canals which run through virtually every town and are quintessentially Dutch (sorry, Venice!).

Experiencing Amsterdam by boat is something I suggest for anyone visiting the city. On this particular outing, we missed the warmer weather but didn’t mind bundling up and bringing some drinks along to cruise through the canals.
