Stockholm, Sweden – Bank Hotel
Art nouveau meets renaissance elegance in this former bank building turned luxury hotel.
There’s nothing like knowing there’s a new city waiting to be explored at your doorstep. My first visit to Stockholm on my Sweden and Norway trip began with my introduction to Bank Hotel, a boutique hotel recently re-imagined from a historic bank building in the heart of Stockholm.
The building was originally constructed during the art nouveau movement, and there are elements throughout that blend modern design with art deco. Walking in, the lobby entrance feels straight out of a Wes Anderson movie; I had my camera out of my bag even before checking in. While the rooms are delightfully Swedish, the main attractions are the spaces created around the hotel. Bonnie’s is a favorite – I had the best meal of my trip there! I love the lush green velvet seating and impossibly high glass ceilings flooded with light.
The Bank Hotel is conveniently located in the city center, right outside Stockholm’s harbor and Ostermalm district. It’s a member of Small Luxury Hotels and recently opened in 2018 after undergoing construction, transforming its former glory as a bank into an exclusive hotel. The new design was imagined by top Swedish stylists, who integrated contemporary design with elements taken straight from Renaissance palaces. The hotel has 115 rooms (including options for solo travelers) and multiple bars and restaurants. Rooftop spaces provide views of Stockholm’s streets and waterways.Combine Swedish design with Norwegian landscapes: read our post from Storfjord Hotel on the west coast of Norway.
