Anyone planning their 2020 travel feeling overwhelmed? @experiencekissimmee reached out to me this month about getting ‘Whelmed’ instead. Rather than feeling overwhelmed by planning or underwhelmed by experiences on a trip…the perfect moment in between is when you’re ‘Whelmed.’ Those are the memorable moments. So funny (and catchy!).
My ‘Whelmed’ moments in Kissimmee:

✔️Feeling transported back to Morocco at Epcot (where this first photo is taken!)
✔️The most picturesque field where these horses came over to greet us
✔️ Spotting our first alligator, on our first airboat ride
✔️ Our sunset ride at Expedition Everest at Walt Disney World
✔️ Dessert after dark (best churros EVER, they’re in my Kissimmee guide)

I spent the last few days in Schiedam, where my father grew up in the Netherlands. It’s an old Dutch town that dates back to the 13th century, home to the largest windmills in the world (one of which, De Noordmolen, is now a restaurant), a historic trading center and old epicenter of Dutch gin production. It’s also where my family used to ice skate each winter when the canals froze over, where my grandfather started working for Volkswagen in the 1960’s, and where the top floor of an old building (previously grain storage for the gin factories) still exists, the building my father was born in that his father turned into a home. That’s my grandfather in front of it in the very last photo.

This trip wasn’t planned and was a quick one (see my stories for background). But Schiedam is an incredibly beautiful and historic town & so special to me, I highly recommend adding it to your list to visit one day ❤️

Sharing my latest blog post on Cambodia has me reminiscing on my favorite moments from Vietnam, like having my first Vietnamese iced coffee on the rooftop of an ancient building in Hoi An. Nevermind that it was 100 degrees outside & my clothes and hair were drenched in sweat ☕️🙌🏼 still worth it 🤣 #finduslostpresets
